Agriculture is one of the most important sectors of human society. It provides food, raw materials, employment, and economic stability. In many developing countries including Nepal, agriculture is the backbone of the economy and supports a large portion of the population.
Main Significance of Agriculture and its role in the climate change is the most important. However, the contribution of agriculture is the mile stone for the development for the developing countries. Food Production, Employment Generation, Contribution to the Economy, Source of Raw Materials, Rural Development, Environmental Importance are the some of the sectors of agriculture.
Agriculture supplies food such as grains, fruits, vegetables, milk, and meat that are necessary for human survival and nutrition.Millions of people depend on farming, livestock, fisheries, and related activities for their livelihoods.Agriculture contributes to national income and supports industries that use agricultural products as raw materials, such as textile and food-processing industries.It provides cotton, wool, rubber, sugarcane, timber, and many other materials used in industries.Agriculture promotes development in rural areas by creating jobs, improving infrastructure, and reducing poverty. Proper agricultural practices help maintain biodiversity, conserve soil, and support ecological balance.
Role of the Agriculture in the Climate Change is remarkable. Agriculture has a two-way relationship with climate change:
- It contributes to climate change.
- It is affected by climate change.
Agriculture releases greenhouse gases into the atmosphere.
Methane Emissions: Livestock such as cows and buffalo release methane during digestion, and rice cultivation also produces methane.
Nitrous Oxide Emissions: Chemical fertilizers and animal manure release nitrous oxide, a powerful greenhouse gas.
Carbon Dioxide Emissions: Deforestation for farmland, burning crop residues, and use of fuel-powered machinery release carbon dioxide.
